In 2003, Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council formed a public-private partnership with BT – RBT (Rotherham Brought Together) – with the aim of improving and delivering a host of services over a 12 year timeframe including rent collection, housing benefits, births and deaths, HR, computers and telephones. This contract has suddenly been cancelled despite being heralded over the last few years as a hugely successful project. Cllrs Gilding and Turner have asked in Council how much it has cost to cancel the contract. The controlling Labour group stated in Council there was no cost. It is our understanding from sources close to the labour group that the cost is £2million. Is the Council being truthful?
