Since being elected to Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council in May 2021, Councillor Simon Burnett and David Fisher have made it part of their role to attend as many meetings as possible at Whiston Parish Council, which are typically held on the third Monday of each month at 18:30 in the Parish Hall.
Incredibly, this is not something Councillors are required to do, and Simon and David do not believe every Borough Councillor attends Parish Council meetings, but they see it as a vitally important part of their role.
The Parish Council discusses a number of important things, including planning applications, fly-tipping, neighbourhood safety, flood defences, spring planting to name but a few.
Following their most recent meeting, Simon said
Whiston Village constitutes over a third of the Sitwell Ward, so we see it as our duty to attend as many Parish Council meetings we can, so that they can hear about our plans and we can hear theirs. This allows us to work together, at any opportunity we can, for the good of all Whiston Village residents.
